I happened upon a dying Nighthawk the other day. He perched on the pavement of a parking lot as if it were his nest, with one wing bent at an unnatural angle to his body. It looked like he was elbowing someone. Flecks of brown, black, and white in his feathers colored him a gorgeous specimen. Not a true hawk, Nighthawks feed on the wing living off of insects.
